The Heart of the Medical Theology Project

The Medical Theology and Religious Medicine Project is a project dedicated to religious medicine and the relationship between Health, Spirituality, and Religion. Its aim is to create opportunities for medical and psychology students, therapists, physicians, counselors, religious professionals, and nurses to explore the intersections between health, spirituality, and religion through interdisciplinary research and educational pathways. The goal is to enhance patient-centered care and help practitioners find personal meaning in medical or clinical psychological practice, while avoiding misinterpretations of religious experience or practice.

The Medical Theology Project consists of a network of researchers, healthcare professionals, and religious figures.

Objectives:

  • To develop specific research in Christian medical theology and the religious medicine of other faith traditions.

  • To cultivate religious and spiritual competence in physicians, therapists, and trainees in the health professions.

  • To offer opportunities for in-depth study and continuing education on these topics to students and other interested individuals.

  • To raise awareness of the intersections of spirituality, faith, and religion with medicine in both public health systems and private practice.

  • To ensure our initiatives are accessible to faculty, physicians, nurses, chaplains, and other interested healthcare professionals.

  • To build a community of individuals passionate about this field.

  • To provide training on integrating spirituality into both professional and personal development.
